BURLINGTON, Mass.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Acme Packet® (NASDAQ:APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced a series of live solution demonstrations to be presented at Interconnect 2008, the company's fourth annual worldwide user conference being held November 16-18 in Miami, Florida. Nine interconnected demonstrations showcase new capabilities for delivering enterprise, contact center, wireless/FMC and wireline services and applications. The demos collectively feature all of Acme Packet's products—session border controller (SBC), session routing proxy (SRP) and multiservice security gateway (MSG), and integrate selected products and services from Acme Packet partners. These partners include AirWalk Communications, BroadSoft, Chinook Hosting Corp, EXFO Navtel Product Group, NetNumber, NewStep Networks, Stealth Communications and Tatara Systems.

"‘Smartly simplifying communications delivery' is the theme of this year's conference and these demonstrations show our customers how to do that," explained Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet's vice president of marketing and product management. "We are especially thankful to those partners who contributed their assistance this year and we look forward to including more partners from the many on our roster at future events."

Demonstrations being presented at Interconnect 2008 include the following:

FMC services for dual-mode Wi-Fi/GSM phone

Acme Packet's MSG and SBC deliver FMC services to a dual-mode Wi-Fi/GSM phone running NewStep Networks' mobile SIP client. The MSG secures delivery over the Internet and Wi-Fi networks using IPsec tunnels for SIP and RTP traffic to and from the phone. The Net-Net SBC interfaces to NewStep Networks' Converged Services Node (CSN) for call anchoring and voice call continuity with seamless handoff between the Internet/Wi-Fi and GSM cellular networks.

FMC services for CDMA femtocell-connected phone

The Net-Net MSG and SBC are also used to deliver mobile services to a CDMA phonevia AirWalk Communications' EdgePoint femtocell access point. The femtocell converts CDMA protocols from the phone to SIP and RTP, and tunnels the traffic over the Internet using IPsec to the Net-Net MSG. The Net-Net SBC provides SIP session control and interfaces to Tatara Systems' Tatara Convergence Server (TCS) for interworking and session hand-in/hand-out with the 2G/3G cellular network.

High-definition video delivery with Quality of Service

In this demo, the Net-Net SBC controls the delivery of Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP)-based video over a bandwidth-constrained broadband access network. The SBC controls video stream admission into the access network by querying an external policy server and assigns appropriate QoS marking for the stream's packets. The SBC also provides access controls and topology hiding for securing the video servers.

SIP trunking for Unified Communications and IP PBXs

Acme Packet's Net-Net SBC securely consolidates SIP trunking for Unified Communications services and IP PBX systems from leading vendors.

Microsoft OCS to BroadSoft® BroadWorks® interworking for "click-to-call" applications

Acme Packet's Net-Net InterWorking Gateway seamlessly integrates Microsoft OCS unified communications platform with BroadSoft's BroadWorks business telephony platform. The gateway enables "clicking" on any name or number on a Microsoft Office Communicator client and "calling" that name/number using the BroadSoft phone and platform. Microsoft Gold-Certified Partner, Chinook Hosting, and its parent company, implement.com, are demonstrating both service provider-hosted and enterprise-hosted deployment models utilizing Microsoft's Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) version 4.5 integrated with BroadSoft's BroadWorks.

Routing for "find me/follow me" services

In this technology demonstration,Acme Packet's Net-Net SBC and NetNumber's TITAN platform, a private ENUM database solution, provide routing for a basic "find me/follow me" service across SIP wireline and mobile phones. The Net-Net SBC functions as SIP registrar for the SIP endpoints and updates the ENUM database with endpoint location information via dynamic DNS. Net-Net SBCs query the ENUM database to retrieve routes to multiple subscriber endpoints as well as current subscriber preferences.

Core session routing and IP interconnect

Acme Packet's Open Session Routing (OSR) architecture will be on full display as the Net-Net Session Router (SR) provides transaction-stateful routing for the Interconnect 2008 demonstrations. NetNumber's private ENUM server willguidethe routing of local calls. Stealth Communications' Voice Peering Fabric (VPF) will provide ENUM-based URI-to-E.164 number resolution so that endpoints located in the demo area can initiate and receive calls to and from the PSTN.

Net-Net 4500 SBC performance

Acme Packet's new Net-Net 4500 SBC will be tested with a Navtel/EXFO InterWatch R14 SIP load generator and demonstrate SIP signaling performance that is 2-3 times more than the Net-Net 4250. Like all Acme Packet platforms, the Net-Net 4500 features carrier-class high availability. It supports up to 64,000 media sessions to handle media-intensive next-generation services such as interactive video.

Net-Net EMS and embedded management enhancements

Enhancements in Acme Packet's embedded management system and the Net-Net Element Management System (EMS) have increased performance and capacity for managing networks with an ever increasing number of Acme Packet systems. These enhancements have reduced configuration discovery, save and activation times; and increased the number of network elements and users supported by the Net-Net EMS. Integration of Acme Packet's products with third-party management tools will also be shown.
