As you wake up this Memorial Day Monday and get ready to pack the car for the trip back home, you'll be doing so with lots of travelers also heading back home.

On Memorial Day 2025, travel across the United States set a new record with an estimated 43.8 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more from home, surpassing the previous record set in 2019. The majority of travelers, about 38.4 million, opted for road trips, marking the highest number of Memorial Day road travelers ever recorded. Air travel also saw a significant increase, with 3.5 million passengers, up by 5% from the previous year. Other modes of transportation, including buses, trains, and cruises, accounted for 1.9 million travelers. The surge in travel was attributed to favorable weather conditions and a strong desire among Americans to celebrate the holiday with family and friends, despite ongoing concerns about inflation and rising gas prices.
