  • The consumer watchdog is now going after Webjet, alleging the travel booking site made false and misleading representations to consumers about flight prices and bookings.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has initiated legal action against Webjet, a prominent online travel agency, for allegedly misleading customers about airfares. The ACCC claims that between January 2021 and July 2023, Webjet displayed airfares that were not actually available at the advertised prices, leading customers to believe they were getting better deals than were possible. This practice, according to the ACCC, involved showing fares that were either sold out or never available at the listed price, causing consumers to waste time and potentially miss out on genuine deals. The ACCC is seeking penalties, declarations, and injunctions to prevent such misleading conduct in the future, highlighting the importance of transparency in online travel booking platforms.
