Travel warning issued for popular Caribbean destination as crime rises

Visitors are advised not to display signs of wealth and to be careful using their phones in public as robberies are common.
The U.S. Department of State has issued a travel advisory for the Bahamas due to a significant increase in crime, particularly in Nassau and Freeport, where incidents of violent crime including armed robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides have risen. The advisory urges travelers to exercise extreme caution, especially in eastern New Providence and to avoid areas known for gang activity. The government of the Bahamas has responded by increasing police patrols and implementing new safety measures, but the State Department recommends that travelers remain vigilant, avoid walking or driving at night, and keep a low profile to minimize risks.
