  • "Despite economic uncertainty and global challenges, travel remains a priority for Americans," AAA said.

According to a report by WSB-TV, nearly 14 million Georgians are expected to travel across the U.S. during the Memorial Day weekend, marking a significant increase from previous years. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) anticipates heavy traffic, particularly on major highways like I-20, I-75, and I-85, and recommends that travelers plan their trips accordingly to avoid peak congestion times. AAA projects that the majority of these travelers will be driving, with an estimated 12.5 million Georgians hitting the roads, while around 1.3 million are expected to fly. The surge in travel is attributed to pent-up demand following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, and GDOT is urging drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to practice safe driving habits during the busy holiday period.
