Brookfield Zoo Announces Expanded Summer Concert Series and 'Wild Sounds' Initiative
Locale: UNITED STATES

Brookfield, IL - February 24th, 2026 - Brookfield Zoo today unveiled ambitious plans for its 2026 summer entertainment program, headlined by a significantly expanded concert series and a brand new initiative dubbed 'Wild Sounds,' aiming to integrate live music more deeply into the visitor experience. While the annual summer concert series returns to the beloved Meyer Dance Pavilion, the zoo is going beyond a simple lineup of performances to create a truly immersive, multi-faceted entertainment destination.
This year's concert series, which kicks off in June and runs through August, boasts a remarkably diverse roster of performers. Initial announcements reveal headliners spanning multiple genres, including legendary classic rock band 'The Retro Rockets' (June 12th), rising pop sensation 'Luna Bloom' (July 10th), Grammy-winning Latin jazz ensemble 'Sabor del Sol' (July 24th), and critically acclaimed indie folk artist 'Riverstone' (August 7th). The zoo promises further artist reveals in the coming weeks, hinting at a blend of established names and emerging talent.
"We've listened to our guests, and they've told us they want more than just a concert at the zoo; they want a full day experience centered around music and nature," explained Zoo Director Michael Schmidt. "That's the driving force behind 'Wild Sounds.' We're transforming the entire zoo into a vibrant soundscape throughout the summer."
'Wild Sounds' will feature smaller, acoustic performances scattered throughout the park, allowing guests to encounter musicians while exploring exhibits. These performances will be themed around the animals, with musical selections inspired by the regions and habitats they represent. Imagine, for example, a Brazilian guitarist serenading visitors near the Amazon rainforest exhibit, or a Celtic harpist playing amidst the Australian outback section.
Beyond scheduled performances, 'Wild Sounds' will also incorporate interactive musical elements. Several designated 'Sound Stations' will be installed, allowing guests - especially children - to experiment with instruments and create their own animal-inspired melodies. Educational workshops focusing on the connection between music and animal communication are also planned, led by zoo educators and local musicians.
The Meyer Dance Pavilion, the central hub for the concert series, has undergone several upgrades in preparation for the increased demand. Improvements include expanded seating capacity, a state-of-the-art sound system, and enhanced accessibility features. Zoo officials are also working with local food and beverage vendors to offer a wider range of dining options during concerts. The venue will also host pre-concert 'Zoo Jam' sessions featuring local bands, providing entertainment prior to the main act taking the stage.
Tickets for the 2026 summer concert series go on sale March 24th, 2026, through the zoo's website (www.brookfieldzoo.org) and select ticketing partners. Early bird discounts will be available for the first two weeks of sales. Zoo officials strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance, anticipating high demand, especially for headlining acts. Season passes with concert access upgrades are also available, offering significant savings for frequent visitors.
Schmidt believes this combination of established concert series and the innovative 'Wild Sounds' initiative will establish Brookfield Zoo as a premier summer destination, appealing to both music lovers and animal enthusiasts. "We're not just providing entertainment; we're creating memories, fostering a deeper connection with the animal kingdom, and celebrating the power of music to bring people together," he concluded.
