U.S. Has Standing Travel Warning for Mexico

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning for Mexico due to increased crime and kidnappings, particularly in the states of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas, where it advises against travel. The advisory, which was updated on Monday, highlights the ongoing threat of violent crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, and carjacking, with criminal organizations being active throughout the country. Despite the general caution, popular tourist destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum are not under the "do not travel" advisory, though travelers are urged to exercise increased caution. The advisory also notes that U.S. citizens have been victims of kidnapping, with some incidents involving criminal organizations that demand ransom.
