Trump's attempt to stop wind energy development sparked 17 states to sue the administration

In a legal challenge against the Trump administration, 17 states, along with several environmental groups, have filed a lawsuit to block a new policy that would allow oil and gas drilling in a vast area of the Gulf of Mexico previously designated for wind energy development. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, argues that the Department of the Interior's decision to open up 73 million acres for fossil fuel leasing, including areas near existing wind energy leases, violates the National Environmental Policy Act and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. The plaintiffs contend that the move not only jeopardizes the nation's clean energy goals but also threatens marine life and the fishing industry, and they are seeking an injunction to halt the implementation of the new policy.
