What to Know About Trump's Revived Travel Ban

Former President Donald Trump's administration implemented a travel ban affecting several countries, which was later modified to include additional nations and impose new restrictions on immigrant and nonimmigrant visas. The updated ban, effective from January 2020, added six countries to the list: Nigeria, Eritrea, Tanzania, Sudan, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar, while easing restrictions on Sudan. The policy suspended the issuance of immigrant visas to citizens of these countries, with the exception of nonimmigrant visas for Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar. The ban was justified by the Trump administration as a measure to enhance national security, though it faced criticism for being discriminatory and ineffective in addressing actual security threats.
