Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano, erupted on Sunday, spewing ash and lava into the sky, but authorities have reassured the public that there is no immediate threat to nearby communities. The eruption, which began around 5 p.m. local time, prompted the closure of Catania Airport due to ashfall, but no evacuations have been ordered. The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reported that the eruption is currently confined to the volcano's summit area, and while the situation is being closely monitored, there is no immediate danger to the surrounding populated areas.
