Pepto Bismol May Not Prevent Traveler's Diarrhea, New Study Finds

A new study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases has found that Pepto-Bismol may not be as effective in preventing traveler's diarrhea as previously thought. The research, conducted by the Naval Medical Research Center, involved over 600 U.S. military personnel traveling to Guatemala and showed that those taking Pepto-Bismol did not have a significantly lower incidence of traveler's diarrhea compared to those taking a placebo. The study suggests that the effectiveness of Pepto-Bismol in preventing traveler's diarrhea may have been overestimated in the past, and travelers might need to consider other preventive measures or treatments.
