US updates travel warning for North Korea

"Do not travel to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for any reason," the updated advisory said.
The U.S. State Department has updated its travel advisory for North Korea, maintaining the highest "Level 4: Do Not Travel" warning due to the continuing serious risk of arrest and long-term detention of U.S. nationals. The advisory, updated on March 14, 2024, highlights the risk of wrongful detention and emphasizes that the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency services to its citizens in North Korea is extremely limited. It also notes that North Korean authorities have detained U.S. citizens for actions deemed political, such as unauthorized interaction with local citizens or possessing materials critical of the regime.
