China expands travel access as US threatens student visas

Citizens of five South American nations will now enjoy visa-free entry into China, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

China has expanded its travel advisory to include a warning about potential harassment and interrogations faced by Chinese students and academics in the U.S., amid escalating tensions between the two nations. The advisory, issued by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlights concerns over the U.S. government's increased scrutiny of Chinese nationals, particularly those on student visas, which could lead to unfair treatment and impact their studies and research. This move comes in response to recent U.S. policies aimed at restricting Chinese access to sensitive technologies and amid allegations of espionage, further straining the already tense U.S.-China relationship.
