Police officers are accused of being "heavy-handed" with children by the Traveller Movement charity.

The Traveller's charity, Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT), has called on the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), to investigate the death of a 23-year-old Traveller woman who died in police custody in November 2021. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested in connection with a domestic incident and was found unresponsive in her cell at Plymouth's Charles Cross police station. The FFT has expressed concerns about the treatment of Travellers by the police and the lack of transparency surrounding the woman's death, urging the IOPC to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and to address the broader issue of the treatment of Travellers within the criminal justice system.
