  In exactly one month, TSA will require passengers to have a Real ID or another acceptable form of ID to fly not only internationally but also domestically.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that enforcement of the REAL ID Act will begin on May 7, 2025, urging travelers to prepare for the new identification requirements. The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, sets federal standards for state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards, which will be necessary for boarding domestic flights and entering federal facilities. The TSA emphasizes the importance of travelers obtaining a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport, to avoid disruptions during the busy summer travel season. The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SC DMV) is encouraging residents to apply for a REAL ID early to avoid last-minute rushes and potential delays, as the deadline approaches.
