Mark Carney, the former Governor of the Bank of Canada and current United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance, has warned that Canada faces significant economic challenges due to its heavy reliance on fossil fuels. In a speech at the Canada 2020 conference, Carney highlighted the risks of a global shift towards sustainable energy, which could leave Canada's economy vulnerable if it does not adapt quickly. He emphasized the need for Canada to diversify its economy and invest in green technologies to remain competitive on the world stage. Carney's comments come at a time when the Canadian government is under pressure to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, particularly as the country prepares to host the COP15 biodiversity summit in December 2022.
