  • While the entire country is under a Level 2 warning, the U.S. State Department says there are some parts that visitors should not travel to.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory urging Americans to reconsider travel to certain parts of Mexico due to increased crime and kidnapping risks. Specifically, the advisory highlights six Mexican states - Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas - as "Do Not Travel" zones. The advisory comes in response to recent incidents of violence and crime targeting tourists and expatriates in these regions. Despite the warnings, popular tourist destinations like Cancun and Cabo San Lucas are not included in the "Do Not Travel" list, though travelers are still advised to exercise increased caution. The State Department recommends that U.S. citizens stay informed of local conditions, avoid traveling at night, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for safety alerts and assistance in emergencies.
