Work to start on delayed new leisure centre

The new site will bring leisure and library services under one roof, the council says.

The construction of the new £37 million leisure centre in Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire, has been delayed and is now expected to start in the summer of 2024, with completion anticipated by the end of 2025. Originally planned to begin in January 2024, the delay is attributed to the need for additional time to finalize the design and secure planning permission. The facility, which will replace the outdated and undersized existing centre, will feature a 25-meter swimming pool, a learner pool, a sports hall, a gym, and a café. The project is a collaboration between Tewkesbury Borough Council and construction company Kier, with funding secured from the government's Levelling Up Fund and local contributions.
