Transatlantic airfares slump as Western Europeans skip US travel

NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) -Airfares from Europe to the United States have dropped to rates not seen since before the pandemic, as travelers from Western Europe lead a pullback in travel to the U.S. that is expected to continue through at least July. The Trump administration was considering adding 36 new countries to its travel ban list, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on January 24, 2020. This potential expansion of the travel restrictions, which were initially applied to seven countries and later adjusted, was part of a broader review to enhance vetting processes for visa applicants from countries deemed as high-risk for terrorism. The list of countries under consideration included Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania, among others.
