As civil unrest unfolds in the country, the State Department has advised U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to certain areas of this popular South Asian nation.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory for the Bahamas due to a rise in violent crimes, including 18 murders in Nassau since the beginning of 2024. The advisory urges travelers to exercise increased caution, particularly in the eastern part of New Providence Island, and to avoid nighttime travel and resist robbery attempts without engaging with criminals. Despite the crime surge, the advisory does not discourage travel to the Bahamas entirely, and the U.S. Embassy in Nassau remains open to assist American citizens.
