Travelers to Fiji have been advised to avoid getting bitten by mosquitos as dengue fever cases spike.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel advisory for Fiji, a popular cruise ship destination, due to an increase in crime, including violent acts such as home invasions, robberies, and sexual assaults. The advisory, which was updated on February 1, 2023, warns travelers to exercise increased caution, particularly in urban areas after dark. Despite the crime concerns, Fiji remains a favored spot for tourists, with over 900,000 visitors in 2022, and it is a common port of call for cruise ships. The advisory also notes that the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency services to its citizens in Fiji is limited, and it recommends travelers to be vigilant, avoid walking alone at night, and not to resist if confronted by robbers.
