US raises travel risk for Caribbean countries

The U.S. State Department has escalated travel advisories for several Caribbean nations due to increased risks of crime and kidnappings. The Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" advisory now applies to countries like Jamaica and the Bahamas, where violent crimes such as home invasions, armed robberies, and sexual assaults are prevalent. The advisory for the Bahamas specifically warns of 18 murders in Nassau since the beginning of 2024, often linked to gang violence. Similarly, the advisory for Jamaica highlights that most homicides are gang-related, but tourists have also been victims of violent crimes. Additionally, the advisory for Colombia has been raised to Level 4 "Do Not Travel" due to risks of crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping, with a noted increase in kidnappings for ransom.
