The Sunbird Migratory Transfer Vehicle is being readied for trials.

A nuclear fusion rocket, developed through a collaboration between the University of Michigan and NASA, could significantly reduce travel time to Mars, potentially cutting the journey to as little as 45 days. This innovative propulsion system, known as the Pulsed Plasma Rocket (PPR), utilizes nuclear fusion to achieve high thrust with high specific impulse, offering a more efficient and faster alternative to current propulsion technologies. The project, funded by a NASA grant, aims to overcome the challenges of long-duration space travel, such as radiation exposure and the psychological effects on astronauts, thereby making missions to Mars and beyond more feasible and less hazardous.
