Most CEOs believe their top HR leaders aren't as well-versed in AI as other prominent leaders.

According to a Gartner research report highlighted in a Fortune article dated May 8, 2025, Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) are perceived as the least AI-savvy members of the C-suite. This perception stems from several factors, including a lack of direct involvement in AI strategy development and implementation within their organizations. The report suggests that while other C-suite executives are actively engaging with AI technologies to drive innovation and efficiency, CHROs are often left behind, focusing more on traditional HR functions such as talent management and employee relations. Gartner recommends that CHROs need to upskill in AI literacy and actively participate in cross-functional AI initiatives to bridge this gap and enhance their strategic value within the company.
