  • The deadline to get a REAL ID to fly is here, and officials at the Atlanta airport say they are ready for the big travel change.

The REAL ID deadline, set for May 7, 2025, requires U.S. travelers to have a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification to board domestic flights and enter federal facilities. At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the world, travelers without a REAL ID will need to present alternative identification such as a passport. Georgia residents can obtain a REAL ID by visiting the Georgia Department of Driver Services, where they must provide documents proving identity, Social Security number, and two proofs of residency. The process to obtain a REAL ID can take up to 30 days, and it is recommended to apply well in advance of the deadline to avoid any travel disruptions.
