  • Travel woes at Newark Airport continued Monday after a weekend featuring another radar outage, a ground stop and dozens of flight cancellations and delays. The FAA announced Newark was operating on a ground delay program, with departures set back an average of 19 minutes across the board as of 7:30 a.m. About 80 flights had already been canceled and delays

On a recent day, Newark Liberty International Airport experienced significant disruptions due to a combination of factors including thunderstorms and staffing shortages, leading to numerous flight delays and cancellations. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had to manage traffic flow into the airport, resulting in ground stops and delays that affected both departures and arrivals. Some passengers reported waiting for hours, with one traveler mentioning a delay of over six hours. The situation was exacerbated by a shortage of air traffic controllers, a problem that has been ongoing and contributed to the chaos at the airport. Airlines such as United and JetBlue were among those most affected, with passengers advised to check their flight status frequently and consider rebooking on later flights if possible.
