Democratic lawmakers travel to El Salvador to support return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia

Four more Democratic lawmakers, including a Florida Congressman, traveled to El Salvador to visit an illegal immigrant and suspected MS-13 gang member deported by President Donald Trump's administration.
Democratic lawmakers, led by Rep. Norma Torres, traveled to El Salvador to meet with President Nayib Bukele and discuss the country's political situation, particularly focusing on the upcoming presidential election in 2024 and the state of democracy. The delegation expressed concerns about Bukele's consolidation of power, his party's control over the legislative and judicial branches, and the potential for democratic backsliding. They urged Bukele to ensure a free and fair election process and to respect the separation of powers, while also acknowledging the progress made in reducing gang violence and improving security.
