A travel data group is giving drivers an idea of the best and worst times to be on the roads.
Memorial Day weekend in New Hampshire is expected to see a significant increase in travel, with an estimated 120,000 more residents planning to travel compared to last year, marking a 7.7% rise. AAA Northeast reports that this surge will bring the total number of travelers to about 340,000 Granite Staters. The majority, around 300,000, will travel by car, benefiting from gas prices that are approximately 10 cents cheaper per gallon than last year, averaging at $3.50. Despite the lower gas prices, traffic is anticipated to be heavy, particularly on Friday afternoon and Monday, with the worst congestion expected between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday. To avoid the heaviest traffic, drivers are advised to travel before noon or after 6 p.m. on Friday, or before 10 a.m. on Monday. Additionally, the New Hampshire State Police will increase patrols to ensure road safety during the holiday weekend.
