A record-breaking 2.6M Floridians will be driving, flying and using other transit to travel over Memorial Day weekend, AAA said.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, a record-breaking 2.6 million Floridians traveled, marking a 5% increase from the previous year, according to AAA. This surge in travel was driven by a 6% rise in road trips, with 2.3 million people choosing to drive, while air travel saw a 7% increase, with 164,000 opting to fly. Other modes of transportation, such as cruises, trains, and buses, also saw a 9% increase, with 147,000 travelers. The top destinations for Floridians included popular spots like Orlando, Miami, and Tampa, as well as out-of-state favorites such as Savannah, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. This significant travel activity reflects a strong desire among Floridians to enjoy the holiday weekend, despite the challenges posed by high travel costs and potential weather disruptions.
