Immigration lawyers have advised Canadians to leave their regular phones at home following border searches of people's personal devices.

Canadians traveling to the United States are being advised to carry burner phones due to concerns over potential privacy invasions by U.S. border officials, according to a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The recommendation comes in light of a recent court ruling that upheld the U.S. government's right to search electronic devices at the border without a warrant. Privacy advocates and legal experts warn that this could lead to the collection of sensitive personal data, including emails, text messages, and browsing history. The use of disposable phones, which can be purchased cheaply and discarded after use, is seen as a way to protect personal information from being accessed during border crossings.
