Tens of millions are expected to travel more than 50 miles over the holiday weekend.

Memorial Day weekend is expected to see a significant increase in travel, with AAA predicting a record 42.3 million Americans traveling at least 50 miles from home, marking a 7% rise from last year. This surge in travel is attributed to cheaper gas prices, which are currently averaging around $3.53 per gallon, a decrease from last year's $4.58 per gallon. The lower gas prices are encouraging more people to hit the road, with 37.1 million Americans expected to travel by car, a 6% increase from 2022. Additionally, air travel is also set to see a boost, with 3.4 million people projected to fly, a 11% increase from last year, and the highest number since 2005. Despite the increased travel, experts advise drivers to remain vigilant and practice safe driving habits during the busy holiday weekend.
